What is Love?

When I am asked what this symbol of love means I feel like it is similar to asking someone why they love you, love is an infinite and immeasurable feeling that cannot be fully described. Also, everyone has their own experience with love, so I want everyone to have their own interpretation this symbol. Anyways, here is some of what it means to me.

Love others as yourself. This universal ethical principle is the best explanation for this symbol of Love. The double helix illustrates the commonality of all living things, our DNA which contains the code for life, and the infinity symbol illustrates the limitless and immeasurable aspects of love. In our DNA there is a genetic code unique to each of us, it also connects us to our family and our ancestors the people we tend to love most. But this love is infinite, so it spans further back in time than our familial ancestry to the common ancestors all humans share and illustrates love for all our brothers and sisters of the human race. Even further back in time, approximately 3.5 billion years ago, our DNA tells us that all living things share common ancestry with the first life on earth, so this love represents love for all species of life and the balance between them on earth. If we look infinitely smaller and infinitely further back in time, we find that the molecules that make our DNA and molecules that makes us are elements that can be traced to the creation of the universe and are the remnants of stardust from the first stars to exist in our universe. This is the limitless and immeasurable love that the entire universe is made of and what makes you. Love others as you love yourself since they are in fact an extension of you.
